Dolphins, as top predators, play a fundamental role in the maintenance and balance of marine ecosystems and food chains, through the regulation of the populations of their prey species. However, our dear dolphins, beloved by all generations, are affected by several factors. Human-generated noise in the marine environment - such as vessel engines - travels farther and deeper underwater than it does in the air. That can cause stress and damage to dolphins, disrupting their natural behavior, as well as their navigation.
Man-made pollutants that flood the ocean, contaminate the habitats and ecosystems of dolphins, as well as their prey, which leads to diseases in dolphins and reduction of their ability to reproduce and fight infections. Another factor which is also seriously affecting these wonderful beings is overfishing and environmental degradation, which results in scarcity of prey.

Although they are a protected species and their capture is prohibited, dolphins can be accidentally caught in fishing gear - being tangled up in nets or cables - and drown. This is known as incidental capture. During their travels, dolphins are also vulnerable to collisions with ships and when they are hit, injuries can be fatal.
Climate change is having an impact on oceans around the world - influencing food chains, prey distribution, habitat quality, ocean temperature - which inevitably affects dolphin survival as well.
