Why is the Panda also our symbol? In 1980 we became the first international conservation organization invited to work in China - and we’ve been working with the Chinese government to help protect giant pandas ever since. This includes helping to designate and set up protected areas to keep more panda habitat intact.
A newborn panda only weighs 140gr on average - about 1/900th the size of its mother - but can grow to 150kg as an adult. These adorable bears are excellent tree climbers despite their size and weight.

Three quarters of all wild pandas now live in nature reserves. Despite hard work being done to support their breeding, panda bears are still an endangered species.
Their natural habitat is fragmented and degraded by humans seeking medicinal herbs and bamboo - the pandas' main food source. Roads and railways are increasingly cutting through the forest, which isolates panda populations and prevents them from breeding.
