ADOPT AN ELEPHANT

The magnificent elephant is one of the smartest animals we know. However, every day approximately 47 African elephants are killed for their tusks. Adopt an elephant and support our work.

Key populations are in decline due to poaching and a shrinking habitat. In Asia, elephants have disappeared from approximately 85% of their historic range. While in Africa, poaching is an ever-present threat, largely due to illegal demand for ivory in Asia.

ADOPT AN ELEPHANT, SUPPORT OUR WORK

Animal adoptions give our work a great boost. Your symbolic adoption supports all our ANP|WWF projects. Along with our partners, we are promoting awareness about the urgent need to co-exist with wildlife by maintaining a precious and essential balance. Your support is essential concerning all the active projects - Wildlife, Oceans and Fisheries, Water, Forests, Food and Climate - so that they can be long-term and so that we can create new front-end interventions for the conservation of Nature!

How does it work?

Did you know?

African elephants are family-oriented animals with a complex social structure. There are two types of herds : females with their young, single herds - and solitary males. Females remain with their natal group for life, sharing responsibility for the young, and males leave the herd when they reach maturity.

Asian elephants differ from their African relatives in several ways. They are much smaller in size and their ears are straight on the underside, unlike the large fan-shaped ears of the African species. In fact, African elephants have ears shaped like the African continent, while Asians' ears look like India!

Learn more about the Elephant

The oldest elephant in the world we know of lived 86 years (1917-2003). The average lifespan of an elephant is 50 to 70 years.

Around 20,000 African elephants are poached every year. Across their range, elephants are killed for their tusks, meat and skin. Other threats that elephants face in Africa and Asia include human-elephant conflict with humans and habitat degradation.
